Hi !!! Friends - Welcome to our Homepage
OLD MEMORIES OF MADRAS
Headquarters of
Madras Telephones was near to flowers & fruits market in N.S.C.
Bose Road, with no space to expand. Today, it is
built up in a spacious locality in Kilpauk. NSC Bose
Road has uniqueness in having
Madras
High Court & Madras Law
College both very old and
impressive buildings.
The Madras
Airport (Original) was more or less
like a Bus Station. The visitors or guests of passengers could go very well
upto the open, or the gang way i.e. hardly fifty or sixty feet away from the
Aircraft and one could watch the plane, taking off or landing. Today, what a
contrast? Now we can’t see either landing or take off from the Airport
building.
The day Panditji died, I was fully
at my Resa Radio, a tiny set, listening to the news and running commentary by
stalwarts like Demello. Then, there was no television. I fasted the whole day
as I was alone in an apartment in Mylapore and all Hotels were closed. One
redeeming feature was the day went off with dignified serenity and calmness, in
tune with a whole nation that was mourning for its beloved son.
Vying with each other, wall posters
and huge banners and cutouts protruded all over the Roads, even obstructing
proper view for motorists and Road users. Thanks to Corporation of Chennai, that
menace is totally eradicated.
